LAKE HUME

We head East from Echuca and Lake Mullwala to a lake approximately 20 Kilometres from the towns of Aubry and Wodonga. The lake is actually a dam that is called lake Hume.

The lake is situated on the old townsite of Huon and comprised an important train station and line that used to haul timber for use on the Snowy Mountain project.  Lake Hume is not only an important source of water for the region but is used by recreational fishers and water enthusiasts.  The water at the moment is fairly low and boat launching is somewhat interesting.

The campsite at Lake Hume is a huge expansive ground nestled among the surrounding hills which was really quite picturesque and beautiful

The section of the old disused railway track between Albury Wodonga and Tallangatta has now been converted into a walk/bicycle track

The trail includes the refurbishment of the old railway bridge which makes for quite a nice crossing with the cattle grazing below

Here you can see the pylons have been offset in a wave motion to replicate the 'feel' of the motion of a train.  It started to spit with rain and we were about 1 hour from camp.

The main bridge across the dam

The DAM wall!

and as one day finishes in beautiful Australia...

another one begins....

and with a new day beginning we decided to head south into the Victorian Alpine region of Mount Beauty and Bright so it was time to hit the road...
