KINCOMBI FALLS / CALOUNDRA / MAROOCHYDORE

Once again we have been experiencing car problems and decided to get the problem sorted once and for all!  We needed however to base ourselves near to a reasonably large town that would have the expertise to deal with our problems.  So we decided on a really nice spot called Kinbombi Falls which is about 10kms out of Goomeri and about 45 minutes from Gympie which is where we would find the Tech's able to fix the car.

Kinbombi Falls were fairly low running due to lack of rain in the area for this time of the year.

Unfortunately this area and others had little to no phone/internet reception so my updates have only been when we are nearer to civilisation.

You can see the perosn in the top right of the following picture to give a scale of the size of these falls

Down, down we go

During summer the locals will go swimming here but at this time of the year it's a bit cold and more water flowing

A nice walk along the gorge from away from the falls

Our second last night at Kincombi and the Weather Bureau issued a storm warning for pretty much the entire East Coast of Australia.  Whilst we were just under 200kms inland we could expect some significant rain falls.  Unfortunately the East Coast received a huge amount of rain right down the coast from Queensland to Tazmania.

Parts of the East Coast including New South Wales and Tazmania received 400mm of rain in a couple of days and tragically several people have been reported killed as a result of the flooding.

Our hearts go out to the families affected.

So we ended up getting our car fixed, damn catalytic converters!

And with a fixed car with renewed power we headed off to take a look at the coast in Caloundra and Maroochydore

Caloundra has a boardwalk that takes you for about 2km on the coast

Some of the landscape in this area is quite amazing mingled with the city

Ello, ello, ello wha hav we ear governor!

We come around to one of the many surf beaches in this area

Nice little left

And another

No prizes for guessing which is my favourite wave eh!

Ok one for you natural's

and another for 'Mr Natural' (now that's a ripper song from 'Mental As Anything'!)

and you get wave of the day! Grrrr!

Another Ello, ello, ello, under Caloundra bordwalk

Some bizarre plant life growing down there!

That's what you can call a root system!

As we walked further we came across some really cool concrete and mosaic tile seating

They use corrugated iron to form the seats up, brilliant!

A lovely ocean pool, really why we can't do this in W.A. I just can't fathom!

and water playground

Further along the board walk

Where nature and civilisation come together :)

Heading out of Caloundra

On this ship (SCF) 'Safety Comes First' I like it!

And no smoking!

Bon voyage SCF NO SMOKING

How beautiful is that!

Oh yes of course I mean't you Karen!

5 litres of pure energy!

Ahhh

Feel the serenity

I think I have seen Jesus!

so how does one beautify an ugly water tower one might ask?

Yes that's right

Now for the light house!

After a lovely stay around the coast

it's time to head back to the car

and hit the road
